Have Fun with Words & Vocabulary!

While the work will be great the fun we have will be even greater! In this three hour workshop, participants will learn how to engage students in strategies for building vocabulary. Strategies in this module include a whole lot of movement and a whole lot of fun. Participants will learn how to get students engaged by scaffolding vocabulary activities they can quickly take back to the classroom with little to no prep!

Be ready to get up and moving as you get at least six new strategies to take back to your classroom! Learn how to facilitate multiple exposures to vocabulary all throughout a unit of study.

Creating Artifacts for Teacher Eval

This workshop is for teachers wanting to learn how to create a digital repository to show off their craft for teacher evaluation at the end of the year. We will look at each of the NC Teacher Standards and unpack ways for you to showcase your efforts throughout the school year. Artifacts for your Evaluation are an important way for you to showcase all of your hard work. Determine areas you need to work on for improvement and show off your best practices!

teachers will explore nine essential strategies found in Dr. Robert Marzano’s book “Classroom Instruction that Works” and compare the work to John Hattie’s unprecedented meta-analysis of research studies on student achievement, the largest global research base into what actually works best in schools to improve learning: Visible Learning.

MTSS & Research Based Interventions

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is the umbrella under which all educational practices fall. It has two main pillars: RtI (Responsiveness to Instruction/Intervention) and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports). These two areas incorporate all academic and behavioral learning.

Learn how to get baseline data and progress monitor your students in the areas of reading and math. Learn about Curriculum Based Measures. Study research based interventions and understand the difference between research based and evidenced based. Understand how to evaluate behavior that supports instruction and learning in your classroom.

We will use a hybrid approach which includes intensive learning, practical approach, and an EdCamp inclusivity to adapt to the needs and wants of educators, making relevant, high quality professional development readily available for all teachers.

Plan to leave with ideas, resources, and a plan for your classroom!  

This workshop shares research and evidence based strategies for response to instruction and intervention in your classroom. You will be introduced to helpful sites for interventions, learn how to document your students growth, and maximize results in your class.

Digital Literacy for the Classroom

Digital Literacy for the Classroom (all grades) will give teachers a close up look at how to integrate technology into their classrooms using any device. Participants will delve into Web 2.0/3.0 tools that integrate with their device. Key topics will include Formative Assessment, creating and curating, as well as collaborating and publishing. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with the skills, strategies, and practice to effectively use devices including Chromebooks and Google Apps for Education in the classroom. This event meets the Digital Content and Instruction component of the NC Digital Learning Competencies for Teachers as outlined by NCDPI.
